My painting has taken quite a turn. Sometimes when I start a painting

I never quite know how it will turn out. Something was really bothering
me about the foreground. There was too much space between the bird on the
lower left and the birds above. I tried 5 different versions of painting the snow
between them. After scraping down that area 5 times I was ready to give up
and wipe the whole thing out! After looking at it awhile and with nothing to lose
I made a risky choice to add tree shadows in the snow. That did it for me! And now I'm on a new adventure with this painting and back to being excited about it.

position and like the overall composition. The next stage

will be the light and shadow areas of the foreground. Once that
is finished I willwork on the background and tree.

This is my first attempt at painting birds so this is a learning
curve and will help with the larger painting.

They have lots of little birds at our new place
at the Sands Willets House. I'm working on a 15 x 30 vertical
painting of several birds under one of the large Spruce trees
 on the property. I will do a couple more studies before I
start on the larger painting. I like painting scenes that are everyday
kinds of things. How many times have you seen these little
birds huddled under a Spruce or Fir tree and nver
give it a thought? This is what I like to paint and
that's why I like to paint nature as a subject.

A little sketch I did this morning looking out my kitchen window.
Two little birds were there on the roof waiting to welcome us to our new home.

Now that we are moved in, you will see many drawings and paintings
of this beautiful Historic Sands Willets House in Port Washington.

Drawing and Painting Classes

We are in the process of offering drawing and painting classes

for a limited number of 6 to 8 students per class two to three times a week.

I will show you how to take my simple "New Neighbors" sketch and
turn it into a beautiful painting using three colors plus white.

who also attended James Madison Elementary School.

I spent a lot of time near the Leeper bridge fishing when I was growing

up in Indiana. All of my classmates would cross this bridge on the way to

school and back. Many fond memories of this area. About a mile from this
bridge is the University of Notre Dame.
